Decathlon Dreamscape SNB 100 Snowboard Jacket Review

I was off to Val Thorens, snowboarding with my son, and needed to get both of us new jackets. He had grown out of his old one and mine had fallen apart, and since I’d move to near Decathlon, I decided to take a look. We ended up buying matching jackets, so here’s my review of the Decathlon Dreamscape SNB 100 snowboard jacket, including loads of pics.

Having only ever shopped online at Decathlon previously for some waterproof running trousers, the store experience was a bit like a supermarket and took us a while to find the right section. It then took us a while longer to understand the branding. Wedze is the overall snowsports brand, and within that, Dreamscape are the snowboard garments and kit. The Dreamscape SNB 100 reviewed here only has a small “Wedze” logo on one sleeve, with no mention of Dreamscape anywhere apart from the label on the rail in the shop.

Wedze Dreamscape SNB 100 Sizing

The first thing we noticed was that this jacket comes out small. I take a medium in almost everything, but I couldn’t even zip the medium up, so I tried on the large, which fitted perfectly. So if you are buying this online, go up a size.

Wedze Dreamscape SNB 100 – Review on the slopes

Val Thorens in France is fairly high up (2300m-3300m), so even at the end of February, it’s still pretty cold. Some mornings it was -7°C before warming up in the afternoon. Add to that, the 20+mph winds on some days. So it was a pleasant surprise that I was initially overdressed in the SNB 100 jacket. If wearing a long sleeve base-layer and the jacket, I needed to unzip the under-arm vents. If wearing just a technical tee-shirt and the jacket, it was comfortably warm if the under-arm vents were zipped up.

The zip comes up to the chin / face but doesn’t rub because there’s a soft patch sewn on to the back of the zip area:

You can also cinch up the hood and hem and the zip has automatic velcro fastening.

For the powder days, there’s an essential powder skirt, which was a great fit and had a sticky rubber area to keep in place. This came in handy when heading off-piste and actually worked – initially it felt like the snowboard pants were falling down, but quickly realised it was just the powder skirt holding tightly to my seat area.

To get around on the slopes, you need a lift-pass. So that it doesn’t fall out of the pocket never to be seen again when you get out the piste map, the SNB 100 jacket has a pouch attached to the inside of the left pocket.

I like to wear my gloves on the inside of the jacket. It just one less thing to tighten up after taking a glove off. But my son likes a tight wrist on the jacket and then tightening the gloves over the top. The SNB 100 jacket enabled both options with a velcro-adjustable wrist.

Later in the week, the snow falling got a bit thin and wet as temperatures snuck above Zero. This meant we got to test the way the jackets dealt with surface moisture. The surface coating wasn’t perfect, with a few patches of surface damp after a couple of hours, but nothing got through the membrane to our base layers, so all good.

I had quite a big stack at 30+mph, landing heavily on coccyx and then shoulder, but the jacket showed no sign of wear or damage, looking brand new at the end of the week, despite being abused on toboggan runs and riding our boards sitting down (on snow roads down to the resort for a laugh).

Wedze Dreamscape SNB 100 – Value for money

The Wedze Dreamscape SNB 100 reviewed here represents great value for money. It was a bit of a gamble buying something that costs a substantial amount less than I’m used to for a snowboard jacket, but it paid off – the jackets performed admirably for both me and my son. And yes, we looked epic doing synchronised carving in our matching jackets :D (it was his idea to get matching colours).
