Envy Mons Boys Ski Jacket Review

I found the Envy Mons boys ski jackets while searching for a good value fully ski jacket for my son that included fully taped seams. Kids grow so fast and the yearly size updates cause regular wallet bashing, so finding the right gear is imperative. Envy is a Czech brand that tries to have quality items across a range that spans various price points. The Mons is incredible value with the features included.

Looks Great

The first thing you’ll notice is that the styling has actually had some thought put into it. A quick glance around other top brands shows a similar style available from Spyder which are pretty much top end. The Envy is providing that at a fraction of the price.

It’s all in the detail

The sleeves include extensions that keep their hands warm and generous velco adjusted cuffs. The removable storm hood has elasticated drawstrings with pinch operated stoppers. The chin is protected from rubbing by a soft fluffy area. One of the sleeves has a pocket for a magnetic lift pass. There is a powder skirt. As far as functionality goes, the Envy Mons has pretty much everything a boy could wish for in a ski jacket.

Warm, waterproof and breathable

The fully taped seams, combined with the “Siberium CT” material protect against the elements whilst allowing them to breath. It’s water resistant to 5000mm/cm^2 with breathability rated at 5000g/m^2/24h. This isn’t top flight technology but for the price it’s better than expected.

On the slopes

In the real world, it performed very well. My son stayed warm in 4degC skiing conditions with only a base layer, and remained dry and happy even during heavy snow where the piste turned into some great off-piste. In colder conditions around 0degC and windy, he needed a second base layer to stay warm. He was also very impressed with the hand warming sleeve extensions.

Additionally compared to many of the other kids in his lessons, he looked very stylish.

If this jacket was more breathable, it would have scored top marks. However, it represents amazing value for money, providing style and function at a great price. Anyone looking to select a ski jacket for their boy should consider the Envy Mons.
